Enhancing the local air quality benefits of roadside green infrastructure using low-cost, impermeable, solid structures (LISS)

Communities living or working in a near-road environment are exposed to elevated traffic-related air pollution which can cause adverse health effects. This project proposes the use of low cost impermeable solid structures (LISS), i.e. thin fences, to promote roadside vegetation pollutant reduction. We conducted 25 Large Eddy Simulations (LES) for various vegetation and LISS designs, and demonstrated that using LISS can help further reduce pollutants.
